Weekend Getaway – Road Trip to Subic

Road Trip to Subic

We hit the road once again for a weekend escapade in one of the favorite roadtrip destinations near the bustling Metro Manila. Subic, Zambales is 130 kilometers northwest of the Philippine capital which is a known esplanade of fun and adventure.

Road Trip to Subic

We started our road adventure from the province of Cavite which is 3.5hrs drive away from Subic. Since it was our first time and I had no idea on the roads to take, I fully relied once again with my favorite mobile travel app Waze which guided us to the fastest route possible to Subic. We took the NLEX-SCTEX tollways and exited in Subic-Tipo interchange then continued driving to Subic Bay Freeport Zone. All in all, we paid Php 430 for the toll fees. With the integration of NLEX and SCTEX, the toll collection stops were reduced from 5 to 2 which saved at least 40 minutes waiting time in toll gates. By the way, I love the mountainous view in SCTEX.

Exploring Zoobic Safari

We arrived to our first destination which is the Zoobic Safari at 8am. Zoobic is the only tiger safari in the country and is a 25 hectare park that offers a wide range of habitats and home to diverse exotic animals. This attraction is great for all the ages and suitable for family bondings. We booked our tickets online thru their website for Php535 per person for adults after 10% discount. Children’s discounted price is Php435 but our little one is below 3 feet so she got in for free. We also paid for mandatory tram fee of Php50 and Php20 environmental fee.

The park is huge and it took us almost 3 hours to visit most of the attractions. We started the tour by foot in the Zoobic Park where you can interact with most of the animals coming from various regions of the world. They have miniature horses, bears, lions, ferrets, camels and many more.

The walking continued to the Rodent World where we found some guinea pigs, porcupines and the huge Palawan rats. Then to the Serpentarium to see various species of snakes, lizards and other cold blooded animals.

After 30 minutes of just walking, we finally hopped in to their Tram to visit the Croco Loco, a pit with over 200 crocodiles. To Savannah, with wild boars, potbelly pigs, ostriches and many more. Then to the Tiger Safari, which is the main highlight of the park. We were transfered to a customized Safari Jeep and had a really close encounter with the tigers. We paid Php200 for the tiger’s food (chicken) to attract these ferocious hunters. The guide fed them the chicken we bought and had a once in a lifetime opportunity so see them that close while eating on the roof and moving around the jeep. It was kinda scary but we did enjoy that moment.

Spending a day and night in Mangrove Resort

After that animal petting and wild feeding adventure, we headed out to locate our abode for the weekend. We booked our accommodation online via Agoda and were very were fortunate to get a superb deal in Mangove Hotel.

We got a deluxe room just in front of their infinity pool with a poolside bar and has an awesome beachfront view. The hotel has their own private beach as well which is good as we wanted to be away from the crowd for a while and have a relaxing time. You can also dine Al Fresco in their restaurant while sipping your favorite cocktails watching the sunset or your hot coffee with the sunrise.

The next day, we spent some time in their pool again and checked out early so we can still spend some time around Subic.

We went to Subic Bay boardwalk to have lunch and walked to elegant looking Lighthouse Resort for some photo ops.

Adventure in the Nature

Before heading back to Manila, we decided to continue the fun and have some extreme experience in Tree Top Adventure. They have the easy going Canopy Ride, exciting Superman Ride and Parachute Fall, challenging Silver Surfer and exhilarating Tree Drop Adventure. You can check the rates from the link above and they have good deals in their packages as well. This adventure park is in the middle of the forest in JEST Area where you can definitely encounter some animals like monkeys on the road and colony of bats on top of the trees.

Other Fun Things To Do in Subic

There are more fun things that you can do in Subic but we did not choose to do it anymore as we really wanted to have more relaxing time by the pool and beach in this trip rather than moving around. Anyway, here are the other things that you can try to do while you are in Subic:

  1. Swim with the sea lion, meet up with sharks and turtles and have an exclusive encounter with the dolphins in Ocean Adventure
  2. Horseback Riding in El Kabayo Stables
  3. Nature Trekking in Pamulaklakin Trail
  4. Learn some survival techniques in JEST (Jungle Environment Survival Training) Camp
  5. Fun Family Activities like Mirror and Garden Maze Adventure, 3D Trick Art, and 3D Enchanted Forest in Funtastic Park

Well Subic is really an interesting destination that is not far from Metro Manila. There are plenty of things to do from nature appreciation, fun and wild adventures, lazy time in their glorious beaches, family bonding activities and many more for you to explore. We definitely love Subic and I am sure that you would love it too. I hope that you can consider this destination on your next weekend or holiday trip. How about a road trip to Subic?

The Zoobic Safari looks like a lot of fun and it seems they have quite a bit to see. The Mangrove resort looks lovely with some really nice views, Would like to visit this place sometime. I do love going to the zoo, but hat to see animals locked away, the Zoobic Safari looke like the conditions are so much more roomy than any place I have seen so far.

I know that many people does not support locking of animals. But Zoobic actually has enough room to their animals. They are well protected and fed.

What a great post and enjoyable family trip! I haven’t been to Subic Safari (coz I find it a bit far) but this place seems family friendly. Kids will learn a lot from this trip. Do they accept school trips?

Yaaay, this look like a really interesting and lovely trip! Amazing photos and such an adorable baby there, haha ♥ But for me, this “attractions” like ZOO etc. are “forbidden”. I decided not to go there anymore 🙂 (ง︡’-‘︠)ง But yeah, it´s just my opinion, I don´t have anything against someone who´s visiting them !

The tree top adventure looks really nice, my girls would love it. They get sad when they see animals in zoos but hook them up to a zipline or a tree top course and they’re happy as clams. Have you tried the JEST? Sounds fun as well.

The tree top adventure is fun and they must really try it. With regards to the zoo, their situation is not that bad as many of them are wandering freely especially in the Savannah. I also wanted to try the activities in JEST but our time is not enough on that trip. I am definitely going back to Subic and that is surely in my to do list.
