10 Reasons Why You Should Not Visit The Philippines

10 Reasons Why You Should Not Visit The Philippines

Where is this country? Though some of you have already heard about the Philippines as a tropical archipelago in Southeast Asia, I am pretty sure that there are still many people out there who are not even aware that this country exists. So in this article, I will expose the nauseating side of this Southeast Asian nation that does not even deserve a place in the world map. Here are the reasons why you should not visit the Philippines.

1. Too many bare islands to explore

Who would like to travel to a country that has too many islands? Of course nobody! The Philippines has 7,107 islands which means they also have more than 7,107 destinations to visit. What??? And for sure, each island has different culture, food delicacies and attractions. I am 100% sure that every traveler doesn’t like to experience variety or choices when they travel. What the Philippines has is definitely too much for one country to visit and it is very annoying.

2. The streets in the cities are outdated

We are now in the 21st century with all the latest technologies, soaring skyscrapers and innovative highways but some of the cities in the Philippines are still outdated. The houses are old-fashioned and the streets are still in bricks. I can understand if it is only in the remote towns of the provinces but even the city of Vigan in Ilocos Sur is antiquated. This is definitely a huge turn off.

3. You have to spend a lot of money for sunscreens

It feels like summer everyday. The weather in this country is mostly sunny with a short rainy season. It means that you will be tortured in the sun and makes you want to visit their beaches. Well they actually have many beaches, surely more than 7,107 of them but they are all overrated. The Philippines claimed that they have the best beaches in the world. That is definitely a big lie. Would you ever want to swim in these undesirable beaches? Look at the photos below.

4. It has weird shaped volcano and hills

These eyesores are undeniably irritating especially if you are going to see them for the first time.  The ugly looking and misshapen Mayon Volcano in the Bicol Region is a very active volcano with several eruptions in the past that caused its lack of appeal. The Chocolate Hills are also known as symbols of imperfection in the province of Bohol.

5. The means of transportation are boring

You will never find a lavishing Mercedes Benz or Volkswagen taxis in this country but you can see these awful looking stainless steel metals on the roads called ‘Jeepney’ instead. Animals are still being used as a mode of transport in certain cities. Definitely boring!

6. There is nothing extraordinary in their tourist attractions

You will never find anything interesting in the Philippines. Most of the things that you will see there are very common and you can find almost everywhere in the world. Nothing really special in this country.

7. There are not much options for adventure

This country is really boring. For the adrenalin junkies and adventure seekers, options are very limited in the Philippines.

8. The roads are always crowded

Vehicles are not the only reason of heavy traffic in the Philippines. The Filipinos love to celebrate their feast ‘fiesta’ on the streets. It happens whole year round as all municipalities, cities and provinces have their own traditional celebrations. Partying on the road in their colorful costumes? Absolutely annoying

9. You cannot showcase your skills in sign language and playing Charades

This is really a horrible thing. Unlike other Asian countries, the Philippines is the one of the few countries where non-verbal language is unpopular simply because everyone speaks English. It will definitely be a culture shock if you have already been to other Asian countries where you need to do creative actions to communicate with their locals. You will definitely miss playing Charades while in the Philippines. Too bad!

10. You should not visit the Philippines as you might never want to leave anymore

You might come in the Philippines with low expectations and this country will definitely surprise you. And for sure, your expectations will be very high when you travel to other countries and destinations after you have seen what the Philippines can offer. From the people, food, adventure, culture, the islands and the beaches, you will surely ask for more because a single trip in this country will never be enough.

Sardine runs in Moalboal and swimming with whale sharks in Oslob were probably two of the coolest experiences we’ve done to date. And island hopping in El Nido was just amazing! Didn’t get to visit Bohol for the chocolate hills but we’ll do that next time. To be honest though we weren’t fans of transportation and food- the trikes take forever to get to places, especially when there are uphils!

Very clever way of creating a post! Unfortunately, I haven’t been to the Philippines. I have had a long layover in the Manila airport, which, I will say, is not my favorite airport in the world, but I’m sure the rest of the land outside the airport is much more interesting!

Well sadly, Manila airport is not that pleasant especially for long layovers. But I hope you can consider to get in someday and explore their hidden beauty. Thanks

There’s no other place in the world I’d rather be in <3 I feel like the Philippines is getting so much attention nowadays and I love how its growing in popularity as a destination. We just need to work on our infrastructure more and give tourists a better support system but I hear you! It has so much to offer and I feel like it could be way more competitive if those tiny improvements could be made! I've done a lot of Luzon but yet have to break into the Visayan region and maybe one day, even Mindanao!

I do agree with you. The government must give full support in our booming tourism. Hope that the current administration can accomplish more this time in terms of improving the infrastructures (airports, seaports, tourist centers) safety, etc. Happy wandering! 🙂

        Hello JM,

Yeah, Actually it works! That’s why I also do this kind of “catchy-and-intriguing” posts. Readers normally likes gossips, and it is a perfect opportunity for us writers to grab that, but deliver a good content. Some misuse it, making looks like a spam. But if you have great content (just like yours) its a WINNER!
